Kiss Vans Classic Slip-Ons Originals
These pair of Vans was definitely a lot different than any shoe I've done so far. It consisted of replicating two iconic images The Kiss by Klimt and Kiss on VJ Day. This customer liked how the two images really mirror each other, and I agree - their resemblance really comes out when they are placed side by side. I also have the Empire State Building and Lower Manhattan on one shoe, and the floral pattern of the Klimt on the the other to further reinforce the theme. The cherry on top is the little kiss print on the back by the New York City image. The tricky part of this pair was to find a way to turn these two completely different images into one cohesive unit. The Klimt is a very colorful painting, whereas the VJ Day is black and white. I used the light blue to give the shoes a common color so that it feels like they belong together. I also used a new splatter technique for the sides, creating a fading effect with the white. I also used this splatter technique on the Klimt too to create the grains of sand.
